New Health Study on the benefits of Organic food

ORGANIC food is more nutritious than ordinary produce and may help to lengthen life spans, according to the largest study into organics ever conducted.

The £12m study, which was funded by the European Union and took four years to complete, found that organic fruit and vegetables contained up to 40% more antioxidants, which scientists believe can cut the risk of cancer and heart disease, and also had higher levels of healthy minerals such as iron and zinc.

Researchers also discovered that levels of antioxidants in milk from organic herds were up to 90% higher than in milk from conventional herds.

While the British Food Standards Agency has said in the past that eating organic produce was more of a lifestyle choice than a healthy one, it has now confirmed that it is reviewing the evidence before deciding whether to change that advice.
